DENZA has used Milan's Brera Design Week to introduce itself to European customers. BYD's premium brand plans to lead its regional expansion with the Z9GT shooting brake, followed by the D9 seven-seat MPV. The presentation brings two different interpretations of electrified family transport into focus.
For the Z9GT, DENZA describes a choice between a battery electric powertrain and a Super DM plug-in hybrid. Its e3 platform combines three independently controlled drive motors, an independently controlled rear-wheel steering system, Vehicle Motion Control and Cell-to-Body battery integration. DENZA links these systems to a small turning circle for a large car and the ability to move diagonally during suitable low-speed manoeuvres.
That combination makes manoeuvrability a useful subject for owners to follow as European specifications emerge. The company is presenting the platform's capabilities at this stage. The precise equipment, software functions and operating conditions available on each European version will shape their everyday usefulness.
The D9 takes a different approach, with seven seats and an interior aimed at family and business travel. It extends the launch programme beyond the Z9GT's shooting-brake body style into the large MPV segment. DENZA says both models will combine electrified powertrains with a strong emphasis on cabin comfort and technology.
The brand began in 2010 as a joint venture between BYD and Daimler and is now wholly owned by BYD. Wolfgang Egger leads its design direction, while BYD supplies the broader engineering resources behind its new platforms. For forum readers, the Milan announcement establishes the opening model plan for Europe. Local prices, final specifications and delivery arrangements will be the next useful pieces of information when comparing these cars with existing BYD models.
